The Forest Feast

after several years working as a food photographer in new york city, shooting for cookbooks, magazines, restaurants, and the new york times dining section, erin gleeson moved to a cabin in the woods of northern california, inspiring the forest feast. inspired by all the local ingredients available in the bay area, erin creates simple, beautiful, healthy recipes that anyone can make and shares them on her blog the forest feast. but she doesn’t just create beautiful food — all the photos and illustrations are by erin gleeson, as well. erin makes photographic recipe illustrations and watercolors to go with them, all based on local bay area produce. here’s just a few to make you drool.

Viva Mexicano

I'm fairly certain I could eat Mexican food every day of my life. When you think about it, the same 7 ingredients are used in every dish, just in different combinations... a revelation that came to me during a late night Taco Bell run in college. And it's so simple to set up a fiesta bar, as Camille shows us for The Cooking Channel. We're actually doing something similar for our rehearsal dinner.

What's your favorite Mexican meal?

Playing with Food

I've spent the whole morning chuckling over this series, Disparity, by Seattle-based photographer, Christopher Boffoli. He creates everyday scenes with tiny model train figures and admits that "there is in some part a god-like feeling to having command of an entire world, which you can rearrange at any capricious whim."

I used to play with my food as a wee one, but never to the extent of this. I really admire people who are able to maintain their childlike creativity, don't you?

Fabulous Food Styling

I don't know about you, but this is the best food styling I've ever seen. German designer and prop stylist, Dietlind Wolfe, conceptualized and illustrated these colorful meals for Brigitte Magazine. They're almost too pretty to eat.
