HENRIQUE OLIVEIRA: BAITOGOGO

Those of you who had the chance to visit the Palais de Tokyo this summer surely marveled at the custom wood installation installed by Brazilian artist Henrique OliveiraThe architectural anthropomorphism, as the museum called it, plays of the building’s existing structure, surrounding visitors in a twisted, knotted exploration of structure and material, made from tapume wood sticks that were recycled from the artist’s home country, a typical material used in Brazilian construction. This interplay of organic materials, here as a structural intervention intervening with a man-made dimension, joins a growing trend of biologically inspired design.
